The Laurel District is one of the many culturally diverse neighborhoods in Oakland.  Situated at the foot of the Oakland Hills, the area is a mix of residential living and thriving businesses along MacArthur Boulevard.  Many residents enjoy walking to and from their home to shopping and dining.  The Laurel community enjoys the weekly Saturday Farmer's market from 10-2 and their neighborhood Farmer Joe's Marketplace which specializes in organic and natural food. 
Much like the surrounding communities, the Laurel continues to change as older homeowners move away and younger families move in.  Many of the homes are being renovated and pride of ownership is evident as you drive through the neighborhood.  Because there are so many young families in the Laurel District, they've created a Yahoo Group to manage messages pertaining to parents of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.
